战神III是2005年开始发售的“战神三部曲”的最后一部作品，游戏讲述了奎托斯是如何向奥林匹亚山众神复仇。不过随着战神系列成为索尼旗下的重磅系列之后，这第一个三部曲显而易见的，不会是战神系列的终点。

索尼的桑塔 莫妮卡工作室的开发总监：约翰 海特在接受Gamervision的采访时明确表示：“这不会是战神系列的终点。”

“当然，第三部作品就是三部曲的最后一部作品，不过我们还会继续开发战神系列的游戏。对此我们会认真探讨接下来的制作方向，我们不想毁了这个系列。”

God of War III caps off the trilogy that began in 2005, pitting Kratos against the gods of Mount Olympus in a whirling rampage of revenge. But with God of War continuing to be one of Sony's strongest franchises, the end of the trilogy definitely won't be the end of the series.

Sony Santa Monica director of product development John Hight told Gamervision as much in a recent interview, "This is not the end of God of War."

"This is definitely the end of the trilogy, but we?re going to continue to do God of War games. We're going to be very careful about what we do; we're the keepers of the franchise and we don't want to see it ruined or polluted."
